There is nothing more frustrating than trying to prepare food with a blunt, low quality knife. And the problem with bad quality knives is that they are almost impossible to sharpen and even when you do get an edge it doesn’t last. So the answer is to source a set of affordable, good quality kitchen knives. Now you don’t need to go mad and buy twenty different specialist knives, a set of four should do well; a chef’s knife for all purpose work, a utility knife (which is basically a smaller version of a chef’s knife for slightly more delicate work), a paring knife which is a small very sharp knife for paring and peeling and finally, the good old bread knife that we can use for bread, tomatoes and so on.

So here is a quick bit of free advice: do not simply go to your local shops to purchase the knives. They are likely to be of a fairly low standard and are unlikely to last all that long. What you need to do is find a shop that specialises in kitchen knives so that you will have a good choice at a reasonable price. Ha that is easier said than done I live in a town (a small city, actually) and there is not one specialist knife shop. There is a cooking shop that sells melon ballers, butter dishes, knives and that sort of thing, but they have only a small selection of kitchen knives at prices that would give any normal person a heart attack!

No, the answer is take a look on the internet. At the flick of a finger you will get access to a plethora of knife shops complete with pages of advice and information. You save transport and parking fees as well as time and you will find that online prices are the very best of value (plus it is very easy to compare prices on the internet). So don’t hold back take a look sooner rather than later and get a set of good affordable kitchen knives online.
